    铁山灌区位于湖南省北部、洞庭湖以东新墙河中下游丘陵地带，设计灌溉面积6.36万hm²，系湖南省第二大灌区。东起岳阳县、西抵洞庭湖滨、南达汩罗市、北接临湘市，是湖南省重要的商品粮基地和洞庭湖粮食主产区之一。灌区总人口116万人。铁山水库是灌区的骨干水源工程，系拦截洞庭湖支流新墙河而成，是一座以防洪、灌溉、城市供水为主，兼顾发电、拦砂、养殖、生态旅游等综合功能的大（2）型综合性水利枢纽工程。水库总库容6.9亿m³。铁山水库大坝为粘土斜墙砂壳坝，坝高44m。

Tieshan Irrigation Project

Tieshan Irrigation Area, located in north part of Hunan province and in middle and lower reach of Xinqiang River east to the Dongting Lake, has the design irrigation area of 63,600 hm2. It is the second largest irrigation area in Hunan Province. Its area covers from Yueyang County in the east, to the Dongting Lake in the west, to Miluo Municipality in the south, and to Linxiang Municipality in the north. This area belongs to the most important commodity grain production base and main grain production area of the Dongting Lake. The irrigation area has the population of 1.16 million. The Tieshan Reservoir is the main water source works of the irrigation area, and it is made from cutting off the Xinqiang River. It is a large scale (Grade II) comprehensive water resource project with the functions of flood control, irrigation, urban water supply, as well power generation, aquiculture and poultry, ecological tourism, etc. The reservoir has the total storage of 690 million m3. Dam of the Tieshan Reservoir is clay inclined wall sand-shell dam, with the height of 44m.
